Topical RSO Guide

RSO applied topically can be extremely beneficial. It’s important to make sure the RSO you’re using is clean and properly purged. Many extractors do not properly purge RSO, and often make it with dangerous solvents. Applying these to the skin can cause more harm than good!

RSO can be applied topically ANYWHERE. But it can be very messy, you’ve been warned. Many people find significant relief when combining topical RSO with Castor Oil. It’s recommended to use an organic, hexane free castor oil, that comes in an amber colored bottle which helps to protect the medicinal components of the oil during transport and storage.

Depending on what part of the body you want to apply the RSO to, a cotton or linen cloth will come in handy. You can apply the castor oil (a tablespoon or two is usually enough, but measure with your heart!) to the cloth, then add the RSO on top of the castor oil and then apply the cloth to the skin. Don’t use fabric made with polyester, nylon or rayon! As far as how much RSO to add, it varies for each person and what part of the body you’re applying to. Each person responds differently to RSO, so if you’re unsure of your tolerance, start small. Most people do not experience the psychoactive “high” when applying RSO topically, but there have been some people who do. Once you apply the homemade castor oil pack to the skin, put a hot water bottle or heating pad over the cloth and leave it for 20-30 minutes. That is often long enough for the skin to absorb.

Some people apply the RSO to the skin, then cover with a bandaid. You can also put the RSO into your belly button (some people experience a high doing this, and some do not- so start small until you know how you’ll respond!) and cover with a bandage or cloth.
